On May 30, 2025, we closed the sale of our home in Boulder.
In the three weeks prior, we had gifted or sold all our furniture.
We cleaned out a horrendous amount of accumulated crap.
And then we hopped on a plane to Baja Sur to lock down a place to live for the rest of the year.
After choosing a condo at Cerritos Beach, I experienced a level of relaxation that truly felt like a transformation.
This wasn’t mere vacation chill. This felt like the final stage of an eight-year evolutionary process.
It was as if the final remnants of the former me were melting away — the same way a caterpillar must completely dissolve in its chrysalis before emerging with wings.
But a midlife metamorphosis should yield something more powerful than a butterfly.
Once you set fire to the suffocating demands of social conformity, incinerate other people's narrow definitions of success, and watch the smoke rise from everything you thought you were supposed to be, you emerge as the phoenix… rising from those very ashes, reborn as something new and authentically your own.
This stage of your existence isn't about small adjustments. It's about complete transformation.
The discomfort you feel isn't a crisis. It's the sensation of becoming something entirely new.
As we move forward with Further, my wife and I will be sharing our adventures for both practical and motivational guidance.
But it's really about your story, not ours.
What would change if you approached the next chapter of your life as the author rather than a character?
Keep going-

🎶 The Cult - The Phoenix (Live), Love, 1985 🎶
The Cult shifted from post-punk, to psychedelia, and then to down-and-dirty blues metal... all during the 1980s. I enjoy it all, but their album Love is one of my all-time favorites in part due to The Phoenix, which inspired the Further logo. (YouTube)

Thank you for sharing Further!
Congratulations! I know you’ve been working toward this for a long time. When we moved into our rental house in Panama, the feeling of lightness I had was indescribable. I wasn’t coming from a power position, like you are — we were escaping the US at the height of the recession that started in 2008 and it was a move of economic desperation — but there’s something about getting rid of all that STUFF that’s just incredible. It was the start of a wonderful adventure, and I expect yours will be even better.
Happy for you! 🙌
