Voice: Your Primary Instrument

Your voice is your primary instrument as a presenter. Not your slides or your body language.

Welcome to the fourteenth lesson of The Persuasive Presenter course. As always, there’s a quick video introduction followed by a deeper dive in text.

Watch, read, and let me know what you think in the comments.

Your voice is your primary instrument.

Not your slides. Not your body language. Not even your words, because the same words delivered with different vocal qualities create entirely different effects.

Your voice is what carries emotion, emphasis, meaning, and authenticity. It’s what makes the difference between a presentation people tolerate and one they remember.

The challenge is that most people have never consciously thought about how they use their voice. They just... talk. And that’s fine for casual conversation, but it’s not enough for persuasive presenting.

You need to understand the elements of vocal control and how to use them to calculated effect.
