Loved this article, Brian. And that's exactly how I moved from being a high-level exec admin into HR at a manager level: I found that part of myself and focused intently on "being" it and in three months I had that job and a 30+ year career!

And Dan Go, in his newsletter this morning, talks about the same thing, from a fitness transformation point of view, when he says

"And something I notice with every transformation is that the person decides they are "that" person before their body changes.

Transformations are identity upgrades. It is the caterpillar becoming the butterfly. That process is uncomfortable. It requires shedding the habits that kept you stuck. It requires embracing new ways of thinking and living."

Yep, everything we knew about motivation and willpower is wrong. Adopt the identity and act accordingly. Motivation comes from the action, not the will.

Love this idea of a ‘Performance Persona’. Powerful reminder that authenticity isn’t static, it’s strategic!

Great read 🙏

Thanks for this, Brian.

I'm definitely on the introvert side of the equation. Since COVID, I've found myself increasingly resistant to being out in large group settings. A trip to WordCamp a couple months ago was just plain painful.

I absolutely need to overcome this *and* produce some videos for the platform we're launching. I've been avoiding making videos for our video commerce product for about 5 years now. I keep kicking myself for not developing a "how to succeed without ever making a video" product. :-)

Doing both of these has felt overwhelming, and I've been unable to get myself going in the right direction.

I'll try this out!

Hey Craig! One of my goals for next year is extending my Rollins persona into making videos. Because I don’t have the live deadline of being called to the stage, I avoid doing them.

Please let me know if you gain any insights while trying this. The resistance I have goes to 11. Most people's resistance only goes to 10, but where can you go from there? 11.
