Greetings from Glasgow
We've moved on from France on our European adventure.
Halò from Bonnie Scotland!
C’est vrai, we’ve departed France and are now in Scotland for a wee bit, before flitting off to Copenhagen at the end of the month.
And in the spirit of all things Scottish, I’ve officially retired the Further tagline of “Live Long and Prosper” (I think some people thought this was a Star Trek blog anyway).
It’s now “Lang may yer lum reek.” That means “May you live a long and healthy life,” but it literally translates to “Long may your chimney smoke.” Och aye!
Back to France for a bit.
Our second extended stay in Grenoble was everything we’d hoped for. It’s such a great town, surrounded on all sides by mountains, and as the “Capital of the French Alps,” it’s exquisite for both hiking and as a jumping off point to the best skiing in France.
I’m still bad at French. But my pronunciation improved quite a bit this time, which is more than half the battle with the language. I’m still doubling down on Spanish, though, given that Panama and Mexico will be our primary home bases.
After a closing whirlwind tour of Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy, we hopped on the Eurostar from Paris to London and ventured on to Scotland. I have to admit, after two months in France, I was looking forward to being in an English-speaking country. But after a week in Glasgow, I’m not convinced that’s what they’re actually speaking here.
No, I’m not being a wee scunner. Nor is me bum oot the windae. A’m tellin ye.
Anyway, we’re splitting time between Edinburgh and Glasgow, with a couple of day trips into the Highlands. A month is nowhere near long enough to get a handle on Scotland, so this is just a warm-up for next time.
But we really do need to head to Denmark for July. Our son is doing a study-abroad program for architecture in Copenhagen, and we need to stop by and hassle comfort him. What 21-year-old doesn’t want to see his parents on his first solo trip to Europe? 😏
And no worries, the business is running just fine despite all the migration. In fact, we just kicked off the second week of the Sovereign Startup Foundations challenge.
There’s still time to enroll and catch up if you join us today. If not, we’ll drop some health-related knowledge for you in the newsletter over the coming weeks.
Lang may yer lum reek…
(a.k.a. keep going.)

🎶 Saturday Night – Bay City Rollers, So I Married An Axe Murderer, 1997 🎶
“Saturday Night” by the Bay City Rollers was a Gen X childhood staple at the skating rink, but hearing it in “So I Married An Axe Murderer” ups the Scottish signal significantly. Charlie (Mike Myers) is easily upstaged in the film by his father Stuart MacKenzie, also played by Myers. “Heed! Pants! Now!” (YouTube)
